Position: School Pastoral Welfare Leader

Location: West Yorkshire

Purpose of Role: As a School Pastoral Welfare Leader, you will serve as a deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school. Working under the guidance of senior staff, you will provide vital support to students and families, addressing their emotional, social, and personal needs within an agreed system of supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the admissions process and participate in comprehensive assessments to identify students requiring additional support.
  • Organize, deliver, and evaluate personalized intervention and enrichment programs, including 1:1 and group sessions, both in school and in the community.
  • Liaise with external agencies and coordinate support services to meet the needs of students in a focused and integrated manner.
  • Use specialist strategies, including TeamTeach, to support self-regulation and de-escalation during times of crisis.
  • Maintain regular contact with parents/carers, providing updates on their child’s progress and securing positive family involvement.
  • Prepare for and contribute effectively to safeguarding strategy meetings, ensuring the voice of the child remains central.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school

Qualifications and Experience:

  • GCSE English/Maths grade A to C or equivalent.
  • Professional qualification (minimum NVQ Level 3) in a related area (e.g., social care, education, health).
  • Level 4 qualification and specific training in intervention.
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead trained.
  • Relevant experience in a school or similar setting, including working with children with special educational needs and/or social, emotional, and mental health difficulties is desirable.
  • Experience in managing staff.

  • Understanding of SEND and child development.
  • Knowledge of multi-agency support and relevant policies/laws.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Effective teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT software and database management.
  • Resilience, integrity, and high levels of motivation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly disposition and ability to apply sensitivity.
  • Forward-thinking approach and solution-based problem-solving skills.
